the Ankh aka the Egyptian cross

The ankh, often called the Egyptian cross, is one of the most recognized symbols from Ancient Egypt. It is traditionally translated as “life.”

But when we slow down and really feel into the symbol, it reveals something much deeper, especially when seen through the lens of womb wisdom and feminine energy.

The shape itself tells a story. At the top, we see a loop. Below it, a vertical line. Crossed by a horizontal axis.

This is not just geometry: it is symbolism of union.

Many interpretations see the ankh as the meeting point of masculine and feminine energies:

  • the vertical line as the masculine (direction, structure)
  • the horizontal line as the earthly plane (embodiment)
  • the loop as the feminine (the womb, the portal, the eternal)

The womb is not only a physical space. It is an energetic center of creation.

In many ancient traditions, including those of Ancient Egypt, life was understood as something sacred, cyclical, and deeply connected to unseen forces.

The ankh was often held by gods and goddesses, placed near the mouth or the body, symbolizing the breath of life, the life force flowing through us.

When we bring this into a modern, embodied perspective, the ankh becomes a mirror.

It reminds us that:

  • creation is not something we chase
  • it is something that moves through us

Your womb, whether physical or energetic, is a space of:

  • intuition
  • creation
  • transformation

This is where ideas are conceived. Where emotions are processed. Where cycles are felt.

In practices like yoga, meditation, and plant medicine journeys, many people reconnect with this inner space, not as something abstract, but as something deeply alive.

The ankh then becomes more than a symbol.

It becomes a remembrance:
that life flows through you
that your body is not separate from creation
that your feminine energy is not passive, it is generative

To work with this symbol is not about “using” it. It is about allowing it to bring you back to your own source. Back to the place within you, where life begins, again and again.
