Wow when I just got home from my travels back to The Netherlands I got a strange rash on my hand… I thought WHAT is this?
I visited the GP here and found out it is something called phytophotodermatitis. Soooo, this is a phototoxiv skin reaction that occurs when skin comes into contact with light-sensitizing compounds found in certain plants. Then it being exposed to UV lights.
So by me touching a plant with my hands and being in the sun afterwards gave me blisters, red and burning rashes AND even long lasting dark spots. Truly something burned me.
This can happen to gardeners, people who touch plants, but also bartenders who touch limes and many more people.
I really did not even know this existed, that’s why I am sharing!
Layers of sunscreen, some calming creme to keep the area hydrated and time are your healers here!
