my body needs meat: what is really happening?

The body speaks in sensations and not in foods. The body does not say: I need a steak. It says things like I need iron, protein, B12, fat, grounding or safety.

The mind then translates these sensations into the most familiar source. If someone grew up with meat, it might equal strength, nourishment, recovery: so the craving makes sense.

Many people that are veggie or plant based feel better when they eat meat because they were under-eating, lacked protein or iron, their blood sugar was unstable, were not absorbing nutrients well, eating “light” plant based foods.

Meat can fix a symptom, not the root cause, and it does not mean eating meat is the only solution.

Cultural conditioning is powerful too, meat makes you strong, you need meat to survive or vegans are weak. Your subconscious will reproduce that belief through bodily sensations.

So instead of my body needs meat, more accurate would be my body needs grounding, nourishment and stability.

Eating plant based it is important to eat proteins such as lentils, chickpeas, black beans, tempeh, tofu, edamame, peas, quinoa and hemp seeds. Healthy fats such as avocado, olive il, coconut oil, nuts, seeds and tahini. Also omega 3s as flaxseeds, chia seeds and walnuts. Iron which is in lots of proteins as lentils, chickpeas and tofu but also pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, spinach and beetroot.

B12 is a supplement to take since it is not a failure of veganism but modern soil depletion.

A plant based diet can meet all nutritional needs but it requires awareness, enough food and respect for the body’s signals.

Balance!
