5 states of mind

According to yoga there are five states of mind. Our state of mind is constantly changing from one state to the other.

  1. Mudha – dull – donkey
  2. Kshipta – restless – monkey
  3. Vikshipta – distracted – butterfly
  4. Ekagra – concentrated – candle
  5. Nirodhah – mastered – trained

1. Mudha
Not being able to cook, to sleep. You can not rest. You get mental sickness. Take sleeping tablets. Hit the donkey mind. Practice asana, pranayama and meditation to activate the donkey mind.

2. Kshipta
Always thinking, thinking, thinking, but doing nothing. Overthinking, monkey jumps from one tree to another. They destroy birds nest, destroy houses. Mind always destroyed, you destroy others mind also. Use asana pranayama, meditation.

3. Vikshipta
Many thoughts in the mind, confusion. Too much distracted. Out of control, dangerous, duality. This wat good or this way is good. Always confused. Wings are Butterly. Bad example. Wings are always moving, change. Distracted. More prayayama will fix this: balance.

4. Ekagra
One thought, one answer. Mind and body are in some alignment. What mind is thinking, the body is doing. What body is doing, the mind is thinking. Do not think of something else while writing etc. 100% energy to one thing. When eating, mind and body broth. Mind goes ways to another place, body here, mind here.

5. Nirodhah
We can train our mind as our servant. Or say to the mind, lets rest, let me be. The “best” state to be. We practice yoga to train our mind. To control our mind. Indirectly. It is like a child. How to have mastery of our own mind. If you want to change the world, start with you. Others are not your problem, you are. Do not try to control others.
