Within the practice or Pranayama (life force expansion) there are different pranas.
There are 5 major pranas – you hold on to them.
✦ Prana – inhalation
✦ Abana – exhalation
✦ Samana – digestion
✦ Udana – talking, activities, listening
✦ Uyana – circulation and transportation
There are 5 minor pranas – you let them go
✦ Naya – hiccups
✦ Koorma – blinking
✦ Krikara – yawning, hunger, thirst
✦ Dharmjaya – sneezing
✦ Devadatta – pervade the whole body, the organ of touch
