Our period is a magical moment. Sometimes it does not feel this way when we are out of balance or there are some health concerns, I advice you to look into it and heal holistically.
After learning more about the different phases of the menstrual cycle, I also got into sustainable period care.
Sustainable period care includes period underwear and reusable pads – to be honest at first this grossed me out a little bit. But I decided to give it a shot and try it out. Now I am a big fan and advocate it to everyone.
Period underwear are similar to regular underwear, you have briefs and thongs, but the layer which gathers the discharge or blood is thicker then regular underwear. You can use the briefs for a heavier flow and the thongs for a lighter flow.
Reusable pads – these are like pads but without the plastic which is not good for your body nor the planet since it creates a lot of waste. You can click them over your regular underwear.
These products you can soak in water after use to get out most of the blood – or was in the sink / shower – before washing them with your regular wash.
I own a couple of underwear from the brand Bamboozy, to be completely honest the quality is ok but I am not sure if they are made sustainable… I can not seem to find on their website information on this. There are many other sellers of period underwear.
My reusable pads are from a brand I 100% recommend, it is called Ecofemme – I bought them through a Dutch retailer online. This brand is Indian and it is a pad for a pad. With every pad you buy, they donate one to someone in need. They also offer education to woman about the menstrual cycle. You can find there website here.
I am not a fan of the menstrual cup, this is because it is best for the blood to flow downwards as you can read in research and books about our cycles.
It is easy to use, it is good for the planet, it is good for your body – bleed happy everyone ❀
I learned this much about the menstrual cycle because I took a course with Yasmine, she is a beautiful soul and you can find her business Flower Moon here.
My dear fairy friend Tessa helps people in Dutch with menstrual cycle problems. So if you struggle with anything – feel so welcome to send her a message. Her beautiful business is called Woman Who Run With The Womb and you can find her on Instagram here.
